Tamara
Chapter One
It was her first day at Medenham. She already knew she would have problems here. She is an outsider. She can’t believe her parents would send her to a British school. An American girl going to a British school. But that’s what her mom’s will states. And her inheritance stipulated that she must go there if she wanted to keep the fortune she suddenly received.
Tamara’s mother recently died, leaving her with a sudden and mysterious fortune. With the stipulation she go to this boarding school for the rest of her time in school. She was just finding out a lot about her family. She never met her father, but apparently her mother kept in contact with him. Up until a few years ago when he died and left her mom with a small fortune that was to go to Tamara when the time was right. And that Tamara must follow his instructions to a T if she wanted to keep the money. Which meant she had to come to this school.
Another big surprise was the fact that she has a half-sister! And she’s going to this school too! Tamara grew up as an only child wishing she had a sister. All this she found out about a week ago from her moms lawyers.
“Miss Ryan?” An older black man asked while extending his hand out to her.
“Yes?” She stood up. Shook his hand and watched as he did a quick appraisal of her. She expected a disapproving look, but he surprised her. He smiled and continued.
“My name is David Tyrel and I would like to welcome you to Medenham. I’m sorry for your loss, but I think you will enjoy your time here.” He led her to his office and office and offered her a seat. Once he sat down he opened her folder. “Oh dear.” He looked sad.
“What?” Tamara couldn’t think of anything bad in her file. She made excellent grades and pretty much stayed out of trouble. The only thing that would stand out about her is her appearance. She tended to look gothic, to include her clothes and even her hair. Currently her hair is passed her shoulders and dyed black and maroon-red.
“I have some bad news for you. It’s about your sister Cassie.”
“What?” She looked at him confusedly
“I’m afraid she is missing, and presumed dead. She was going through a lot lately and its suspected that she killed herself.”
What? She couldn’t believe what she just heard. Her mother just died, she found out her father knew about her and never contacted her, and she found out she has a half-sister. Now that was being taken away from her! Life sucks! Her face must have shown the hurt she was feeling because the principle got up from his chair and sat next to her.
“We’ll keep you updated on the investigation. We have an excellent guidance councilor and my door is always open to you.”
Tamara just nodded her head.
“We’ve put you in Cassie’s room. So you can go through her stuff and decide what you want to do with it. Her mother was committed a few years ago so you are officially the next of kin.”
Tamara was still numb. All at once she is in a new country, a new school year, and a new life. And to add onto that she had no family or friends to share her new experiences with.
She stood up and grabbed her bags as the principle, who seemed to her like a nice man, led her to the new room that would be hers for the rest of her time in school.
He unlocked the door and a chill ran up her spine. As she walked through the door a chill went up her spine. She walked in and didn’t touch anything. She didn’t need to. She could feel a strong presence there, but couldn’t see anything.
“Dinner is at six, and classes begin on Monday. Here’s my card.” He hands it to her. “If you need anything don’t hesitate to call. If you have any questions about Cassie, just ask. I liked her. She was a special young lady.” With that he closes the door behind him.
Tamara set her bag down in the middle of the room. She then sat down on the empty bed. There were sheets folded nicely at the foot of it. She didn’t want to go over to Cassie’s side yet. She wasn’t ready yet. The energy from the room itself was amazing! She was surprised about how much of the energy was coming from the empty side, and not Cassie’s side.
“Note to self.” She says aloud. “Find out who was Cassie’s roommate.”
She stood up and finally walked over to Cassie’s side. Over by the window were several drawings and paintings. “So, she was an artist. That’s cool!” She then walked over to the vanity and started to pick up what looked like a strange urn.
“Don’t touch that! Who are you?” This tall gothic looking chick yelled at her.
“I’m Tamara. And this is my room.” She pauses. “Wait.” It starts dawning on her that this was not a normal girl. There was something very odd about this girl.
“No you don’t! This is mine and Cassie’s…” The girl started and then stopped herself.
“You!” Tamara walked over to her and looked her straight in the eyes. “You’re a ghost!”
“What?” The girl stammered. “You can see me?” This seemed to surprise her.
“Yes I can. Now, who are you and why are you in my room?”
“My name is Thelma. This is or I should say was my room. So, you can really see me?” Thelma had somewhat of a puzzled look on her face.
“Yes. So why are you here? Shouldn’t you move on or something?” Tamara asked as she sat down.
Thelma sat down next to her. “I’m not sure anymore. Cassie was my best friend and when Azazeal killed me I ended up a ghost. I figured once Cassie died then I would disappear. So it might have to do with Malachi. Oh Bullocks!” Thelma stopped. “You did know she is dead right?”
“I was told missing and presumed dead. Wait, you were murdered? Who is Malachi? And where have I heard the name Azazeal from?” Tamara frowned. She has heard that name several times but can’t remember from where and from whom. She sat there mulling it over.
“I’ve told you who I am, now you tell me who you are and why you can see me!” Thelma waited. When Tamara didn’t respond. “Hello? Did you hear me?” She waved a hand in front of Tamara’s face.
“Sorry. My name is Tamara Ryan. I’m from the U.S. I just found out last week that I had a stepsister! I never knew about Cassie. I was sent here to finish school. As to why here? I have no idea. It was stipulated in the will that I must go her. And ever since I’ve been a little girl I’ve been able to see ghosts. Felt presences even if I couldn’t see them.”
“Oh great! Another witch!”
“What? No, I don’t practice magic, nature, or spells. I just have a sixth sense type of thing.” Tamara stopped. “Are there witches here?”
“How are you related to Cassie?” Thelma asked as she grabbed a bag of chips that were stashed under her bed.
“Apparently we share the same father. I’m not sure of the details. The lawyers didn’t tell me too much. So, you can still eat as a ghost?” She was fascinated watching Thelma eat.
“Oh yes! And I don’t gain a single pound! It’s a perk I guess!”
They both laugh.
What a day, Tamara thought. With everything going on, adding a ghost to the picture seemed quite amusing. What else could happen today?
Just then the door burst open an short dark red headed girl walks in saying “Hate me Thelma all you want because of Cassie but we still have to find Malachi and kill him! Err…who are you?”
“This is Tamara. Cassie’s half-sister from America.” Thelma said through clenched teeth.
“Who are you and why did you burst through my door?” She stood up.
“That is Ella and she killed Cassie!” Thelma said angrily.
“And now it appears I must kill you too!” Ella pulled out what looked like a ceremonial knife and lunged at Tamara.
